Sensors marked for use in C1D2 / Zone 2 hazardous areas and mis-labelled NS002 and NS003 Sensors

Recently we informed our customers of critical information about the following Nanoprecise sensors marked for deployment in hazardous locations:

  • NS003 sensors marked with Class I, Division 2 Groups A, B, C, and D / ATEX Zone 2 / IECEX Zone 2; and
  • NS002 sensors marked as Class I Division 2 / IECEX Zone 0 / ATEX Zone 0.

Class 1, Division 2 (CID2) Certification – NS003

We have determined that there are variations from the originally certified design for NS003 sensors, which require us to regularize these variations with the certification agency for deployment in Class I Division 2 locations.    Due to these variations, these sensors are not currently certified. However, we are confident that these variations can be regularized with the update to our certification. We are initiating the process of updating these certifications and will update you once these variations are regularized.

The variations to the sensors’ design consist of changes to the super capacitor, the cellular board, and the vent cap. These variations do not add any make or break components and are therefore not expected to change the sensors’ non-sparking characteristics. However, these variations have not been tested for temperature rise during normal operations. As the sensors operate intermittently, we believe the potential for temperature rise under normal conditions is minimal and anticipate having these variations regularized as soon as possible.

Caution: If you have installed these NS003 sensors in a CID2 location, we recommend that you review the safety of these sensors for your operations independently.

Where operations are expected to have gases that have an ignition temperature lower than 100 degrees C (e.g. Carbon Di-Sulphide), we recommend that you immediately take the sensor out of service.

If you determine that these sensors are not suitable for your operations, please contact us at notice@nanoprecise.com

ATEX / IECEX Zone 2 Certification – NS003

We have determined that NS003 sensors have been mis-labelled as certified for ATEX / IECEX Zone 2 locations. These NS003 sensors are not currently certified for ATEX / IECEX Zone 2 locations, and we are initiating the process of obtaining these certifications.

As outlined above, there are certain variations to the NS003 sensors’ design involving the supercapacitor, the cellular board, and the vent cap which have not been certified by an approved certification agency. We believe these variations to the sensors’ design are not expected to cause any sparks under normal operating conditions. However, these sensors are required to undergo further mechanical testing to be certified for deployment in ATEX / IECEX Zone 2 locations.

Caution: If you have installed these sensors in ATEX Zone 2 or IECEX Zone 2 locations, we recommend that you review the safety of these sensors for your operations independently. If you determine that these sensors are not suitable for your environment, we recommend you remove them from service and contact us at notice@nanoprecise.com

CID2 / ATEX Zone 0 / IECEX Zone 0 certification – NS002

We have also determined that our Model NS002 sensors (smaller Wi-Fi version) have been mis-labelled as certified for deployment in Class I Division 2 locations. These NS002 sensors are not currently certified for use in CID2 locations, and we have initiated the process for obtaining the required certifications.

Caution: If you have installed these sensors in CID2 locations, we recommend that you review the safety of these sensors for your operations independently. If you determine that these sensors are not suitable for your operations, we recommend you remove them from service and contact us at notice@nanoprecise.com

The NS002 model marked as ATEX Zone 0 / IECEX Zone 0 does not meet the required certifications for use in ATEX Zone 0 / IECEX Zone 0. Our records indicate that these sensors have not been shipped for installation in ATEX / IECEX Zone 0 locations and we therefore do not believe that these sensors have been deployed in any Zone 0 locations. Please note that the NS002 devices are not certified for this high-risk zone, and continued use of these sensors in Zone 0 locations poses a safety and compliance risk. If these sensors have been installed in ATEX / IECEX Zone 0 locations, the devices must be immediately removed from service and returned to Nanoprecise. Please contact us at notice@nanoprecise.com to initiate the return and discuss alternative options.

Safety is the highest priority for Nanoprecise, and we regret that some customers may have been inconvenienced by our oversights. We are conducting a comprehensive review to ensure that no additional non-conformities remain, and we will be vigilant in ensuring our technology aligns with the certified safety requirements. This voluntary initiative will be in addition to the audit requirements under applicable certification guidelines.
